MacBook Air 2011 – Today we’re here with a review of the updated 2011 ultra-portable laptop from Apple that comes pack with new internal features but remain unchanged design too.
So lets start with the new features. They’ve added the Apple Thunderbolt Port which is 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and 12 times faster than firewire 800. They’ve also added a backlit LED keyboard which makes for typing in low-light very easy. And they’ve also updated the processor to the Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.
Bundled Mac OS X Lion is also another great updated features. It support multi-touch on the touchpad, which you can move from apps to apps, zooming and rotating an images and so on just by touching the touchpad.
You can pick one up starting at $999 for the 11.6-inch 1.6Ghz Intel Core i5 processors, and the prices go all the way up to the 13.3-inch 1.8Ghz Intel Core i7 Processors for $1700.
Now the New Macbook Air measuring 0.11-inches at thinnest point and 0.68-inches at the thickest point that make this laptop is incredibly light. On the left hand side you have a power connection, a USB 2.0 Port, 3.5-inch headphone jack, and a microphone. Moving over to the right side you got your Apple Thunderbolt Connection, a USB Port, and then the SD Card reader.
The New Macbook Air Battery Life is great and I got roughly 6 hours using this for surfing the web, checking mail, listening to some music on iTunes and even some video editing. They claim that the 11-inch Macbook Air model get 5 hours of battery life while the 13-inch model get up to 7 hours.
The stereo speakers is surprisingly good and play right through the keyboard for some casual music listening or even watching some videos and movies.
Now in terms of speed, Apple use flash storage which is almost identical to a solid state drive, and with that, this is allow to instant on like you see on the iPhone or iPad. And that also makes opening files much quicker. Also the new intel processor handle the most task like a charm. Multi-tasking work really great. I had no problem doing a video editing with iMovie while running a view apps on the background.
One last thing I like from this New Macbook Air 2011 is that this laptop doesn’t get hot when you using it intensively.
My final thought is that Apple definitely didn’t sacrifice the portability and slick design of the Macbook Air while fixing some consumer complain from the earlier model by adding a faster processor and backlit keyboard. Overall, I have to say that Apple did a great job on the All New Macbook Air.
